/ INTO DANCE

01.05.2010

SeaChange Arts led the Into Dance partnership, which offered participants both with and without disabilities and of all levels and experiences an opportunity to get involved with dance, devising new work and participating in events in Belgium and Sweden.

Taking place over the last two years and across three countries, the project saw SeaChange working alongside Platform K in Ghent, Belgium and Vanersborgs Kommune, near Gothenburg in Sweden.  Norfolk Dance, the county’s dance development agency, based at The Garage in Norwich, also brought their expertise around dance and disability work to the partnership.

Each country hosted a dance residency where participants from all three countries worked together with a professional choreographer to create a new piece of contemporary dance that was then performed at a public event. The project saw  performers from Sweden and Belgium taking to the stage at SeaChange’s Out There International Festival of Street Arts and Circus in 2010 as part of the UK residency.

SeaChange Arts are now working with all of the project partners to produce a toolkit which can be used by other organisations hoping to run similar projects in the future. The toolkit and a DVD showing films from all of the dance residencies will be added to the website once they are complete.

The project was funded by the Grundtvig Programme which supports training opportunities for adult education organisations, staff and learners. A film about the Into Dance project can be viewed by clicking here
